Haunted Chapter 2

CHAPTER TWO

Let’s rewind a little bit. I am a 400 level student studying Industrial Chemistry in a 21st century Nigeria university. Don’t forget I included Nigeria University, and not just a 21st century university. Both are a different description of 2 universities. My school is of a high standard when it comes to academics. We read for exams and test like after school, we are getting a job straight at Chevron, Mobil or NNPC.
Ignoring any form of criticism, our students are really intelligent. But the 21st century stuff, that must have been mistaken someway somehow because all I see is the same 20th century Nigeria university stuff.
I live in a hostel off the campus and, I have a good CGPA, bad friends and a cool normal student life. When I mean bad friends, not that they are bad as in ‘bad’ but those guys are criminals in thinking,  great in academics, fantastic at making money using cunny methods and wicked when it comes to fornication. Those guys can chase after a female cockroach if they see one. My parents are ok, my life was normal and I sincerely had nothing to worry about.
“Boss how far now?” Jide greeted me.
“Bad guy!” I responded hugging him.
Jide is my course mate and we do get along very well.
I also greeted shaking and hugging so many guys and girls before settling down to find my friends in their own department lecture theatre.
Friends are always there to provide solutions to your problems anytime of the day anyway. Even if they can’t provide the full solution, they will surely solve half of it.
Seeing my 2 friends, Kenny and Tolu, I ran to them to exchange pleasantries before I table my problem.
On seeing me, the 2 shouted “Bad Guy! Where you dey all this while and na when you come back self wey you no fit tell us? Na wa for you o”
Immediately I thought to myself. This is so good. The same thing Lizzy asked me. Responding the exact same way I did to Lizzy, they both looked at me with the kind of face you have when a liar is trying to pretend like he has done nothing to be suspected for.  I had to convince them I don’t remember anything before they were forced to just tell me for friendship sake. By the time they finished telling me what I wanted to hear, I was more confused than enlightened.
I felt so weird like if my memory has been edited by someone. ‘How can I not remember a whole three days of life?’
My two friends looking at me confused asked me. “Are you telling us you don’t remember any of this?” I looked straight at them and nodded to confirm their worst doubt.
It’s now making sense to me I said.
“Meaning?” Tolu asked.
“I can’t find my stuff when I woke up this morning. And do you know the funniest thing? Someone locked me inside my room.”
Expecting my friends to wonder how that happened after saying that, they both busted laughing and mocking me.
“This guy is on Agege weed I swear” said Kenny.
“Guys! Am fucking serious about this. This isn’t funny anymore.” I said
“Oh!” That reminds me Tolu said. “Mister Dejavu, You need to call your mum. Take my phone because she has been asking for you ever since Tuesday.”
I collected the phone with annoyance, dialed her number and was getting ready for the high volume questions she is going to ask me.
My mum? Don’t even go there. She is strict and lovely at the same time. If my mum should book you for an appointment at 6 am and, you decided to take a 5 minutes extra time before you get there, just forget it. Because your grace already expired by 6:02. That extra 2 minutes to her is a hell lot of wasted time. And when she talks, it’s possible you may likely mistake her for a military personnel. She has this type of high volume voice that can knock you off your feet. And when I mean knock you off your feet, I mean get you scared and not the way you must have thought about it.
“Where the hell did you put your phone young man? Where have you been for the past 3 days? And why have you not tried to contact me?”
All this questions were heard loud and clear by me just holding the phone around my waist while rolling my eyes like
“God, am in for it again”.
Now imagine how it would have been, if I had put the phone close to my ear or on loudspeaker. After so many ‘Am sorry ma and ok ma’, I finally had a long sentence of my own.
“Am sorry ma, am still trying to figure somethings out but am ok. I will call you later I said, trying to calm her down.” She paused and said.
“You better have a good explanation for this“
I dropped the phone and asked my friends. “When was the last time you guys tried my phone?”
They both answered “This morning”.
“But it has been saying switched off ever since yesterday evening” Kenny concluded.
I looked at them and nodded saying “I see!”
“What are you thinking” Kenny asked?
“Am trying to remember something” I replied.
But… was I really trying to remember anything? No. It was fake. I just don’t want to look like a total jerk in front of my friends.
“Guys! I will see you later, I have a lecture to catch” I said.
We dispatched our different ways with loads of things on my mind. ‘What happened to almost 4 days of my life? Where did I go? And who did this to me? ‘
